Do you need a car but have bad credit? There are ways to get a car even if you do not have a sterling credit record. You do have options and choices even if you have bad credit. You just need to find car lenders and sellers that specialize in bad credit auto loans. If you do this, then you will be driving down the street before you know it!

Where do you start? You first need to have some sort of down payment. Even if it is just $200, you need to have some good faith amount that you can give to your lender. You also need to have a job. If you do not have consistent income, then you will probably not get an auto loan. You need to have a consistent home. If you do not have a place that you stay on a regular basis, then you need to establish one.

Some of the car lots will offer you later model cars that have been well taken care of and have low mileage, but you will also find those car lots that only have cars that are about to fall apart. You need to be an informed consumer and try to not be desperate when you are searching for a car. Just because the outside looks good, does not mean that it runs good or that it will keep running after a week or so. Ask the terms of their financing including the interest rate, length of loan, and payment amounts. Make sure that you have some length of warranty, so you can drive the car for a little while and make sure that nothing is wrong with it or even take it to your mechanic to have it checked out for any problems.

Having bad credit does not mean that you are destined to drive a 20-year-old car that is falling apart. You can find a car that will last you through the life of the loan that is mechanically sound. If you give your car regular oil changes and tune-ups, they will help it last longer and run better. You can make your car that you purchased with a bad credit auto loan last for years and years!
